Vail officials have hired a Denver-based company to tackle a mold problem at an apartment complex where up to 600 employees live during the peak ski season.
After a thorough inspection, remediation experts said about 90 units need at least some work, including improved bathroom ventilation and replacement of some bathroom fixtures, drywall and carpet, as well as repair of leaky pipes to prevent future mold growth.
Cost estimates for the work range between $1,000 and $3,000 per unit. Upgrading ventilation systems could cost as much as $31,500. Timber Ridge Village was built in 1979 and was acquired by the city of Vail in 2003 for $20 million to maintain deed restrictions for affordable housing. It is the largest rental property in Vail.
Vail Resorts is also still in the process of addressing a more-serious mold infestation discovered at Breckenridge Terrace, a $21 million, 180-unit apartment complex that houses employees of the Summit County resort.
