Kingsmill Resort has laid off about 140 employees as a result of a
mold infestation in its guest condominiums
The infestation of black mold in all 400 units prompted Kingsmill to
close its rooms division last week until next spring as the units are
renovated. Kingsmill blamed the mold on this year’s wet weather and
the power outage after Hurricane Isabel. The Williamsburg-area resort
laid off about 115 of 400 seasonal employees and 26 others described
as “benefited” employees.
Kingsmill did not estimate the cost of the closure or the renovations.
Kingsmill’s amenities remain open.
